Antje Martens-Oberwelland (amo) was born and educated in Germany before she immigrated to Bruce County, Canada in 2000. Antje has formal training in the European art tradition and was drawn towards painting from an early age on. When words won’t do painting has always been another way to express herself. Her art is based on landscapes, her travels and her observation of animals. She works in whatever medium, she feels likes her at the moment, but enjoys oil on canvas the most. Antje often has the finished painting in her mind long before she starts with the actual painting process. The process itself becomes a journey through ideas, composition, colour and texture. Her artwork ranges from representational to semiabstract and show the well balanced synthesis of sensibility of feeling and intensity of expression. The viewer feels the closeness to the motive. Antje’s paintings have been sold at exhibits, but individuals have also comissioned her. Many of her paintings have found a home in Canada and the US, in Germany, Spain and Italy.
